What Can You Do?
The importance of having some pre-determined idea of what to do when a crisis strikes cannot be over emphasised.
At the simplest level problems could arise from, for example, an electrical fault or a leaking pipe;
- Do you and your family all know how to replace or reset a fuse? Do you have a torch? Where is it? Where is the distribution box?
- Where is the rising main? Where is the stopcock? Do you need a spanner? Where is the spanner?
- Where can I get the utility company emergency number from?
At the other end of the spectrum, wide area problems such as those that we experienced in Cumbria in January 2005 can increase the scale of difficulty dramatically.
On the pages in this section is information that can assist you in preparing for an emergency - it is by no means definitive and should be used in the context of your own particular circumstances. Also shown on many pages is a link to the UK Preparing for Emergencies Web Site with contains much useful information.
